About this experience

Guided whale-watching safari from Andenes aboard MS Alba with onboard refreshments and heated seating.

Andenes sits at the northern tip of Andøya, where the seabed drops sharply into deep offshore water just a few kilometres from the harbour. Sperm whales feed here year-round, drawn by the squid and fish that concentrate along the shelf edge. It is one of the few places in Norway where whale watching is a serious proposition — not a hopeful one.

Tours depart from Andenes Harbour aboard MS Alba, a restored classic catamaran built for these waters. Each trip runs 3 to 5 hours, with the crew navigating by recent sightings, local knowledge, and whatever the sea allows that day. The route is never fixed. The guides will explain what they're looking for and why — the behaviour, the biology, the conditions that bring whales to the surface. Hot soup, tea, coffee, and biscuits are served on board. There is heated indoor seating and an outdoor viewing deck.

No whales or dolphins spotted? Guests receive a Whale Pass — a free rebooking on another available tour. Subject to availability; must be arranged in advance.
