Trollfjord cruise in silence
Trollfjordcruise i stillhet
A Trollfjord Cruise from Svolvær
First, we set course for the Trollfjord, which is only accessible by boat or a 10-kilometer hike across the mountains. As we leave the harbor, we pass "Fiskekona" (The Fisherman’s Wife), a statue that has waved farewell to and welcomed home fishermen for decades. Along the way, our guides share stories and information about the nature, as well as local history and culture.
Explore the Wildlife, Above and Below the Surface
At Raftsundet, we deploy an underwater drone (conditions permitting) so we can explore the world hidden beneath the surface. As we maneuver through kelp forests or explore the seabed with the drone, we may encounter some of the fish species that Lofoten communities have relied upon for centuries.
During our journey through the strait, the surroundings and views become increasingly spectacular. Keep your eyes peeled, as this is where we have the chance to spot sea eagles (white-tailed eagles). We pass scattered houses, and our guides share some surprising, typically Norwegian stories. Along the way, our skilled crew talks about the wildlife and history, and especially about the fishing culture among the hardy people living throughout Lofoten.
Silence and Serenity in the Trollfjord
The Trollfjord is widely considered a highlight of any visit to Lofoten, and for good reason. The entrance to the Trollfjord is only 100 meters wide, flanked by 1,000-meter-high mountain walls that plunge straight down into the deep fjord water. Once through the narrow entrance, the Trollfjord opens up, rewarding us with lush, green 360-degree views.
Inside the Trollfjord, you can join our guide out on the deck, where they set aside the microphone and guide in person so as not to disturb the tranquility. We are in an eagle paradise, so keep an eye on the sky. Our guides share stories about the nature, history, wildlife, and the trolls of the Trollfjord. We pass the waterfall before turning back towards Svolvær. On the return journey, our café opens for lunch.
